Federal water managers announce public information sessions about post-September 2024 Columbia River Treaty operations

How the United States uses reservoir space in Canada changes on September 16, 2024, from the high degree of structure and control of flows coming across the border from Canada experienced over the last 60 years under the Columbia River Treaty, to an operation that increases the uncertainty of those flows. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) will hold four virtual public information sessions in September and October to begin informing the public about the potential changes.

Walla Walla District deploys Advance Measures Technical Assistance Team to Idaho for Post-Wildfire Analysis

From Nov. 11 to 15, The Walla Walla District, at the request of the State of Idaho, deployed a four person Advance Measures Technical Assistance Team to the site of two wildfires to assist in post-burn analysis.

Gavins Point Releases Reach 90k

Water releases from Gavins Point Dam will be increased to 90,000 cubic feet per second at 8 pm today as unregulated inflows from the Niobrara and other watersheds continue to spill into the reservoir. At the same time, Corps officials in Omaha and Kansas City are lending support and resources to state and local communities dealing with rising waters from a powerful regional storm.

Additional Gavins Point Releases Being Made

Water releases from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., have been increased to 50,000 cubic feet per second and will be increased to 60,000 cfs later today and Friday. Efforts being made to minimize downstream impacts.
