Heavy rainfall which led to mid-September flooding in Colorado, also fell in the foothills of the Bear Creek basin. The pool elevation at the Bear Creek reservoir rose several feet over the following days reaching a record peak pool elevation of 5607.9 ft on Sept. 22. At Bear Creek Lake Park, campground facilities and park infrastructure including trails, parking lots and picnic areas became inundated with floodwaters from Bear Creek and Turkey Creek. Pool levels returned to normal elevations by mid-October.
