Direct Hire Authority

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a Direct Hiring Authority to advertise and consider applicants for in-demand career field vacancies. The employment opportunities are available under a Direct Hiring Authority allowing anyone wishing consideration for these opportunities to submit a resume, transcripts (official or unofficial) and a statement of interest (optional).

The resume must include detailed experience statements pertaining to the position to be found qualified.  If you fail to provide transcripts, your application package will not be sent to the hiring manager. These submittals may be considered for specific advertisements or other vacancies where skills potentally align.

Work in the Northwestern Division

The Northwestern Division manages its districts’ civil works activities based on the Columbia and Missouri river basins rather than state boundaries. Its primary civil works missions encompass flood control, navigation, hydropower, fish and wildlife, water quality and irrigation, recreation, and disaster response. 

In NWD, the districts performing military and environmental work are Kansas City, Omaha, and Seattle. The Portland and Walla Walla districts tend to have larger civil works programs. The five districts consistently achieve top marks for mission execution, customer satisfaction, and quality products.

Internship Programs

The Northwestern Division hosts the Hydropower Internship Program that recruits, hires and trains maintenance engineers to staff the technical sections at the multipurpose hydroelectric power plants in the Pacific Region of NWD in the Federal Columbia River Power System.
